Dr. McDonald is a 1979 graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine. He served on active duty in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps for 24 years retiring with the rank of Captain. After practicing as a dentist for ten years, Dr. McDonald went back to school full time for two years in an advanced training residency program at the National Naval Dental School, Bethesda, MD earning a certificate in Comprehensive Dentistry.
He is a Diplomat of both the American Board of General Dentistry (formerly the Federal Services Board of General Dentistry) and the Certifying Board of General Dentistry. He also was awarded “Mastership” status in the Academy of General Dentistry after completing over 700 hours of additional education and passing two rigorous examinations. Less than one percent of general dentists have achieved this level of advanced training.
Dr. McDonald continues to maintain his comprehensive skills through continuing dental education. Dr. McDonald grew up in southeastern Massachusetts. He graduated from St. Anselm College in Manchester, NH with a degree in Biology. He is married to the former Josephine “Josie” Jones of Westford, MA. They have three children; Mary Jo, Colleen and Alex. He is active in the local community of Groton. Sailing, shooting sports and fine wine are his primary hobbies.
